The action of the game begins around 2004 in the city of North Yankton, when Michael Townley and Trevor Philips, together with his friend Brad, fall into the local bank. After collecting the loot, the three thieves run outside, where a police squad is waiting. The mobsters manage to get into the car and achieve a getaway, however, they end up colliding with a speeding footstep. The heroes miraculously survive the collision, but at the scene of the incident, federal agents attack them, killing Brad and successfully shooting Townley. Trevor escapes[27]. It seems the whole incident was processed by Michael, who appeared as Federal Investigation Bureau (FIB) agent Dave Norton, and changed his name to "De Santa
